Carbon Iceland will capture CO2 on a large scale, from smelters in Iceland. This will prevent millions of tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, allowing Carbon Iceland to have a positive impact on climate change. The CO2 we capture from industrial emissions is a vital feedstock for our main goal, to produce renewable fuel for all long-range transportation vehicles, such as for ships, aviation and other types of transportation. At later stages, Carbon Iceland has planned a diverse portfolio of different CO2 sources, including DAC.
Key role in energy transition: Producing renewable fuels, phasing out fossil fuels
By mixing CO2 with hydrogen, on a large capacity, Carbon Iceland is able to produce renewable fuels for engines that currently use fossil fuels. This will allow transportation industries to take giant steps, phasing out fossil fuels and converting to renewable fuels, without completely replacing engines of current fleet.
Renewable fuels for domestic use and for export
Carbon Iceland is proud to collaborate with some of the largest fishing fleet operators in Iceland, providing them with renewable fuel for the maritime industry. Usage for our renewable fuel in Iceland will secure our place as a leader in Iceland’s Energy Transition. In addition, Carbon Iceland will also provide renewable fuels for export, directly to large offtakers in Europe and US.
