Recently, there has been an increased interest in the future of the production of renewable fuels in Europe and US. A recent installment of Biden Inflation Act and Europe’s RED directives has the potential to change the landscape in both continents and to further motivate production and applications in eFuel markets. For producers, the key is to become Advanced Biofuel eligible to secure premium prices. Hal discussed the eligibility of CO2 sources for RFNBO and recycled carbon fuels under the EU RED system. Used cooking oil biodiesel (UCOME) is now trading at considerably more than €1,000/tonne. It has a g·CO2/MJ value around 15. It is not advanced fuel category eligible. It is used for fuel blending with diesel. And Neste is the largest producer of renewable diesel and jet fuel in the world. They currently list their FAME biodiesel price also above as $1,000/tonne, Note that NESTE fuels are not “advanced Fuel eligible.” In short, the current landscape indicates clearly that the future of eFuel market is bright and a strong business case is definately in place.
